Calci Yum Cardrona Kids Cup a huge success
Sunday, 12 July 2009 11:24
The sun was shining, the Calci Yum was flowing and the kids were ripping it up at the inaugural Calci Yum Kids Cup held at Cardrona yesterday. The mini slopestyle event for 5-12 year oldskiers and snowboarders was a whole carton-load of fun for the field of 45 kids who were making the most of the school holidays.
The field was split into three age categories; Super Groms, Rippers and Shredders, as well as boys and girls and skiers and snowboarders. The youngest competitor of the day, sneaking into the Super Grom ski category at three years old was Gustav Legnavsky of Wanaka.
One of the day's highlights was Hank Bilous of Hawea Flat who pulled a moonwalk on a box in tribute to Michael Jackson and the Bilous Boogie featured on the boxes, in the air and everywhere else there was music to be heard. "It's awesome" said Mitchell Collett of Wanaka who was a most enthusiastic spectator, who along with Hank's brother Finn and another competitor Ollie Ford, provided some pretty slick dance moves as entertainment for the parents who came along to watch.
It is really exciting to see the next generation of freestyle skiers and snowboarders giving it a go. Keep it up and we'll see you for the Cardrona Calci Yum Kids Cup next year! Big thanks to all our sponsors for making it happen - Calci Yum, Rossignol & RPM!
