Homestay

For athletes wanting a home away from home while they train, HPC can put you in touch with a friendly, local Wanaka family who enjoy having a new family member over the winter months.  They offer a caring family environment, support and home cooking after a day of training and study.

We believe that the relationships created in a homestay environment can be lifelong and we encourage athlete's families to keep in regular contact with their child and the homestay family prior to and during their stay.

We have a limited number of homestay families available, so please apply as early as possible and no later than three weeks prior to the start of your training.  For further information please read the athlete information below.

If you are interested in becoming a homestay family and welcoming an HPC athlete into your home please read the families information below.

  • If the athlete wishes to go out with friends, any meals will be at the athlete's expense.

  • The athlete is responsible for their transport to and from training venues and any venue at which they are studying, however we expect you to assist where necessary with information on how to get to these venues.

Expectations

We require all families to treat athletes with respect and kindness.  It is important to us that the athlete feels comfortable and safe with the family.

Your rules and guidelines for the athlete should, within reason, be based around what they are accustomed to at home and should be discussed with the athlete, so that they understand fully your expectations.

You will be required to agree to a Police Vetting Check (link to pdf - will send soon) on all people living in the house that are 18 years or over.

Cardrona HPC reserves the right to decline any application by a family or a student, without explanation.
