Snow Sports School - Learn how to Ski or Snowboard
Kia Ora and welcome to the Cardrona Snowsports School!
Whether you are at Cardrona for just a couple of days, the week, or the whole season, come and see us at the Ski & Snowboard School. We offer ski and snowboard lessons and programmes for all ages and ability levels. We can help you improve your skiing/riding, have fun, and look good doing it.
Our week-long programmes have the benefit of instructor and group continuity and are a great chance to improve your technique, meet other skiers/boarders and have a great time on the mountain. They are perfect during the school holidays or if that family is at Cardrona for several days. The adult workshops are designed to go hand in hand with the kids’ Skiwees/Lowriders programmes.
I have skied before but am still working on stopping and turning.
2 (Blue)
I make wedge turns and control my speed with my turn shape. I am comfortable on green terrain.
3 (Blue)
My skis start the turn in a wedge and end the turn parallel. I am comfortable on blue terrain.
4 (Blue)
My skis are always parallel and my legs work simultaneously throughout the turn. I use my poles in time with my turns and am comfortable on all blue terrain.
5 (Black)
I ski parallel and can carve my skis and remain balanced and controlled throughout the turn. I can make short, medium and long radius turns.
6 (Black)
I am a strong skier and am able to make carved turns, in a variety of radius, on all groomed terrain. I can ski all off piste terrain with speed and confidence and using different turn types.
I have snowboarded before but I'm not comfortable riding on both my heel and toe edges and/or not linking heel side and toe side turns down the magic carpet slope.
2 (Blue)
I can link both turns down the magic carpet slope, happily riding on both edges and controlling my speed. I am ready to have a try up MacDougalls chairflift. Or maybe I have been up MacDougalls once or twice but still not too confident and struggling with the slightly steeper terrain.
3 (Blue)
I have been up MacDougalls a few times, riding on both edges down the MacDougalls slope, linking both of my turns most of the time. I am having the occasional problem but generally quite happy on the slope. I just need some handy hints.
4 (Blue)
I find riding down MacDougalls easy and would like to progress to blue runs. Or maybe I have tried one or two blue runs and found them a bit difficult and so could do with some pointers to help with speed control / turn size/shape and or confidence.
5 (Black)
I am happy riding on White Star, Captains and Valley View and am looking to progress to blacks, off piste, beginner terrain park, switch riding.
6 (Black)
I am an all mountain rider, but am looking to progress further in situations such as off piste, terrain park, half pipe, switch riding.
