When the best snowboarders & skiers in the world (think Shaun White, Luke Mitrani, Jamie Anderson, Simon Dumont, JP Auclair, Colby West, TJ Schiller) descend on Cardrona specifically to ride Pipe you know something special is happening in our own backyard. Pre-Olympics the demand for our 22ft Superpipe has been pretty intense so when National Teams from all over the world started asking for a private training facility in October the Cardrona Park Crew was only too happy to oblige.
So its official - Cardrona Alpine Resort's Olympic halfpipe will be staying open for a Pre-Olympic PRIVATE halfpipe camp for two weeks after the official closing on October 4th. The camp will run from 5th October and will be the only 22ft halfpipe in the world open for training at that time.

With the 2010 Winter Olympics just around the corner, the best of the best in snowboarding will be at Cardrona making every hour count in the best freestyle training facility in the Southern Hemisphere. With back to back, double corks the emerging standard this will be one of the last opportunities athletes have to finalise their Olympic halfpipe runs.
Shaun White, gold medallist from the Torino Olympics will be among those training at Cardrona to retain his title in Vancouver. Others confirmed to attend are, the New Zealand, Japanese, Polish, Canadian, Australian and Spanish teams.
2009 has been an awesome season of halfpipe competition at Cardrona and we have witnessed some of the best and most progressive riding going down.... and it happened here in Wanaka - ow!
John Melville, Cardrona's Parks & Pipes Manager will continue to build and maintain the pipe. John will also be joining Steve Petrie from Arena Snowparks, in Vancouver to build the 2010 Olympic halfpipe.
Massive thanks to John & the Park Crew for making the 09 season at Cardies one for the history books. Yea boys!
