Cardrona and Treble Cone have a long history of providing quality training and facilities to support young snow sports athletes along their competitive pathways.

Our mission is to provide a world class training programme that gives our athletes the opportunity to excel in snow sports in New Zealand and at an international level.
We aim to create a seamless progression between junior development and high performance, providing passionate young athletes the platform for success and opportunity by:

- Providing opportunities and facilities for athletes to grow from rookie to pro.

- Supporting our athletes to develop the tools to face challenges and achieve goals.

- Actively preparing athletes for ownership and accountability of their own performance.

- Creating a team culture and camaraderie in which every individual thrives.

Our High-Performance Centre (HPC) encompasses all our competitive training programmes across both Cardrona and Treble Cone and includes - Cardrona Parks Squad, Wanaka Ski Team, TC Freeride Team, and Coaches Apprentice.

With an emphasis on the fundamentals, WST strives to create an environment that is fun, supportive, and conducive to learning. The ultimate goal of the program is to develop resilient athletes who are achieving their ski racing potential.  The Wanaka Ski Team has full and part-time programmes for junior skiers at the beginning of their race journey all the way through to FIS level athletes.

The Cardrona Parks Squad calls the Southern Hemisphere's most extensive terrain parks and pipes their home. Cardrona is home to four progressive terrain parks for all levels of freestylers, two halfpipes, a big air jump and a gravity-x course. The Cardrona Parks Squad coaches are some of the best in the game and will help athletes on a competition pathway learn new tricks and iron out kinks in their style.

The TC Freeride Team trains on some of New Zealand's best freeride terrain at Treble Cone. TC's natural bowls, halfpipes, chutes, cliffs, steeps and side hits make it the ideal training ground for young freeride athletes. The team will help athletes progress their skiing and mentor them through local freeride competitions.

The Coach Apprentice Certificate Program at Cardrona is built on a mission to provide education for ski and snowboarding coaches. By instilling coaches with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources, the program aims to create sustainable coaching.

Athlete Homestay

The Cardrona Parks Squad offers Homestay placements for freeski & snowboard athletes.

Coming to New Zealand for a season of training with the Cardrona Parks Squad can be a significant commitment for an entire family. Our team can connect you with a local Wanaka family who are happy to house your young athlete for the winter season in our Homestay programme. We can provide an ideal environment for training and suggest the the athletes are above 14 years of age.

Homestay families provide your athlete with a warm, supportive home for the winter, with all their meals included in the agreed weekly payment between you & the host family. Weekly payments range from $300 - $360 per week depending on living situation & home facilities.

ATHLETE HOMESTAY INFORMATION

For athletes wanting a home away from home while they train, our Cardrona High Performance Centre programme coordinator can put you in touch with a friendly, local Wanaka family who enjoy having a new family member over the winter months. They offer a caring family environment, support and home cooking after a day of training and study.

We believe that the relationships created in a homestay environment can be life long and we encourage athletes’ families to keep in regular contact with their child and the homestay family before and during their stay.

We have a limited number of homestay families available, so please apply no later than 4 weeks before the start of your training and we will try to arrange a suitable match for you.
