Cardrona What's On: Spring is Here!
Spring skiing and riding is here... and the mountain is in great shape for the rest of the season!
While we've had a week of spring sunshine, cold temperatures overnight have meant the team have been able to fire up the snowmaking guns and the top of the mountain is seeing mid-winter snow on trail, with spring slush down lower. It puts us in really good shape for the rest of the season!
Here's how things are looking from above (featuring Finn Bilous in Big Bucks):
Here's an overview reminder of the Level 2 guidelines for both Cardrona and Treble Cone (you can read them all here):
- You must wear a face covering over your mouth and nose in our indoor spaces (except for when eating/drinking in our F&B outlets), in lift lines, on lifts, and in our transport.
- Make sure you scan in or sign in wherever you're asked to.
- Our indoor spaces are limited to 50 people, so please bear with our teams and be patient as they monitor numbers.
- Use your car as your base lodge if you can!
Weather Forecast
Tomorrow (Saturday the 18th) is looking to be a great start to the weekend, with mild winds forecast and a mostly sunny day. Things start to get a little scrappier from Sunday, with some possible snow flurries until Tuesday. The middle of next week is looking sunny at this stage!
Keep an eye on the Snow Report for the most up-to-date information on what is open over the next couple of days.
The forecast for the next three days from Snow-Forecast.com looks like this:
Treble Cone
Treble Cone has got great spring skiing conditions at the moment... so much so that they've decided to reopen for a delighter weekend from October 1st to 3rd! Originally they were scheduled to close for the season on September 26th, but have worked a little magic to see the season out with a bonus 3 days at the start of October. TC will still be closed from Monday 27th to Thursday 30th September. Their official Closing Day celebrations will be held on October 3rd... we'll see you there.
Events
The Torpedo7 Slopestyle Showdown is on tomorrow! Some of NZ's best up-and-coming riders will be battling it out – and it'll definitely be one to come up and watch if you're in town. Big Bucks will be closed to the public tomorrow while the event is on.
Terrain Parks
After a massive effort by our grooming team and halfpipe shaper Alli, the Olympic Halfpipe is now open! It's been a lot of fun watching the pipe addicts send their first few hits yesterday and today, and we can't wait to see what new tricks are landed in the pipe this spring.
Elsewhere in the parks, we're seeing some insanity and creative line choices out there... check out this line from Tiarn Collins (filmed by Roy Schott):
Dragon Week
Next week is our annual Dragon Week! We've got 5 days of fun activities (both on the mountain and online) featuring Dragon and Cardrona athletes Jossi Wells, Tiarn Collins and Mitchy Davern, and heaps to giveaway. The team from Dragon will also be up at Cardrona on Thursday and Friday with goggle demos and prizes to be won. Make sure you're following our stories on Facebook or Instagram to find out how to win!
