We had quite a lot of snow up at Cardrona last week...
...which has meant finding our mountain bike & mountain cart trails in time for Opening Day on December 1 has been a little bit tricky. Our trail team are doing their absolute best to get biking & carting going, but in the meantime when life gives you snow, you gotta make a snowball & throw it back... right?!
We've had some pretty warm weather up on the mountain so a lot of the snow has melted! The team stockpiled a massive mound of snow which will still cover the Beginners' Area so we will still be doing beginner skiing & tubing down there.
Santa will be at the Vista Bar from11am to 12.30pm on Saturday! If you're coming up to see Santa make sure you bring your gumboots or a pair of shoes you don't mind getting wet or a bit muddy in.
We're still opening for summer on December 1. What's changing a little is what we're opening for... next Saturday we're opening for sightseeing via the McDougall's Chondola, snow play, snow tubing, & beginner skiing!
Yep, that's right – we're getting the cat out again & giving the Beginners' Area a groom. We're running first-timer lessons & tubing from the Learner Conveyor – there'll even be a box for the park rats to session. There's a rumour that the big man himself will be up at Cardrona on Saturday, so come get your photo with Santa on the snow!
We're offering discounted Learner Conveyor day passes of $35 Adults / $25 Kids (6-17yrs), which include a single ride on the McDougall's Chondola.
There'll be ski & snowboard gear & snow clothing available to hire at Rentals, The Lounge & Vista Bar will be open during the day & Mezz will serve dinner from 6pm. Transport from Queenstown & stargazing tours will run as per the usual summer schedule. Lifts will run from 10am to 4pm.
Mountain biking & carting at this stage will be delayed a few days, but we'll keep you all updated on our Cardrona Alpine Resort & Cardrona Bike Park Facebook pages with what activities we're running & when. Getting biking & carting going is our #1 priority, so the team is pushing really hard to make it happen & we'll let you know when they do!
It's a real novelty to be on snow in New Zealand in December, so we're embracing what our maunga has given us & getting out there to have an epic time on Opening Weekend. We'll see you all on December 1 for some fun in the... snow?!!
