This week's summer report has all the excitement from Korea, an update on the NZ MTB Nationals, & more!
WHAT a week this has been! In some sort of solidarity with our athletes competing over in Korea, Cyclone Gita decided to deliver us a blanket of snow on Tuesday that is still melting at the time of writing on Friday. We're not sure we believe in signs, but this sure seemed like one – on Thursday New Zealand broke a 26-year winter medal drought with not one, but TWO bronze medal performances from Cardrona Team athletes Zoi Sadowski-Synnott & Nico Porteous!
We're so proud of the Kiwis this Games! Beau-James Wells landed an incredible run in the ski halfpipe final to finish in fourth, narrowly off the podium but a mammoth effort considering he'd just seen brother Byron break his kneecap in practice. Finn Bilous' clean ski slopestyle run (only 0.6 of a point off qualifying for finals) is one we'll remember for a while! Carlos Garcia-Knight is looking to back up his fifth place in snowboard slopestyle with a strong performance in the snowboard big air finals. He qualified in first place so it'll be exciting to see him in action at 2pm NZT tomorrow (Saturday Feb 24).
This weekend looks like it's off to a good start with a mostly-clear Saturday, with a few drizzles settling in for Saturday night & much of Sunday. According to the crew at Snow-Forecast.com, the start of next week is looking mostly clear!
After this week's snow, the trail team have been working their tushies off to get everything going for TGIF Friday tonight!
They've managed to get these trails up & running:
- Sweet As
- Morning Glory
- Ridge Rider
