Pipelines Ski Report September 8, 2017

This week's Pipelines Ski Report says farewell to the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ... & a big hey to the Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational!

What an amazing final week of the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ! We've seen it all – major upsets, favourite wins, & two Kiwis (& Cardrona Team riders) on the podium! The hugest of congratulations to Zoi Sadowski-Synnott & Carlos Garcia Knight who both placed third in the FIS Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup against the most competitive field we've seen up here in a long time.

The last event today was the FIS Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup. It was brought forward a day early with some snow in the forecast... which started to fall right after the final competitor's run!

We also had not one, but THREE Cardrona staff members on the podium for the North Face Frontier 4* event today! Congratulations to Laia Castellarnau on her first place in Women's Ski, Hank Bilous & Sam Lee on first & second respectively in Men's Ski. We're so proud of all of you!

We now turn our attention to the skies with a mid-winter storm hitting tonight, tomorrow & Sunday – we've already had a good 20cm this week so the mountain is looking prime!

We're a week out from the Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational finals next Friday... it's free to watch on the mountain & we're running a livestream for anyone out of town.

It's been an interesting week, with a couple of stunning bluebird days followed by 20cm of fresh snow over a day & a half! It started snowing again today at around midday (just in time for the WGNZ Closing Ceremony!) & the folks at reckon it'll keep going for a while yet!

We are SO excited for the Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational this coming week! The rider list is stacked with some of the heaviest names in the biz, with X Games & Olympic gold medallists & local legends going head to head in the most fun ski & snowboard event on Southern soil. The riders also get to check out a few of the region's adrenaline activities – we can't wait to show them our playground...

Check out the full schedule for the Jossi Wells Invitational here; it's free to watch & we're doing a livestream thanks to the legends at Dragon Alliance so there's no reason to miss out on the action!

The Park Crew have now turned their thoughts to the Big Air – they're building a jump for next week for some of the best ski & snowboard athletes in the world. Last year Tom Campbell's jump was dubbed "the best jump in the world" by the riders at the Jossi Wells Invitational, so the boys are putting in the hard yards to make him proud.

There are also a stack of new features in Big Bucks, Stag Lane & Antlers Alley over the next wee while, the boys are absolutely smashing it out there!
