It has been a stellar final week of the school holidays at Cardrona for this week’s ski report!
After 40cm of fresh snow falling over the past week, the mountain is in tip top condition with excellent riding both on & off piste.
We’re looking at a snowy start to this coming week! Mountainwatch are forecasting the start of the storm to hit later today & continue through tomorrow & the start of the week. Could be some epic powder turns in the ski report this week – we predict a lot of “sick” workers over the next few days!
This week Big Bucks opened! Big Bucks is our slopestyle course with an XL triple jump line and some technical rail features, including the new Mons Royale feature that our Park Crew hand built this week! Look for the flags in the park tomorrow, Sunday July 24, show us your stuff on that feature & be in to win some swag from Mons Royale!
Monster Energy Presents the Jossi Wells Invitational, Cardrona NZ
The Jossi Wells Invitational is coming to Cardrona this August! Yesterday we announced this incredibly exciting event – we can’t be more stoked to be putting on a signature Big Air competition with our main man Jossi! Some of the biggest names in skiing & snowboarding will be throwing down on our 75+ft jump, & you can see it all for FREE! There will be “fan zones” around the Base area with our awesome sponsors Monster Energy & Dragon Alliance hanging out with some giveaways!
Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more info about the Jossi Wells Invitational & we’ll see you up here on the 13th!
Kids’ Cup & Piki Maunga Rangitahi
On Wednesday we held the annual Cardrona Kids’ Cup Slopestyle, & the grommies threw down! 50 kids aged 5-11yrs impressed the judges with big spins, technical rail tricks & even a backflip or 2! The fun-focused event was a huge hit with all the kids, with a LOT of Calci Yum drunk, & prizes from the legends at Dragon, Rossignol & GoPro.
Tomorrow we’ll see our young skiers & snowboarders go head to head once again, this time in the Big Mountain event Piki Maunga Rangatahi. The event is the first stop on the NZ Youth Freeride series, & is sure to be a spectacle for everyone at Captain’s Pizzeria – the event will be held on Tulips run, right over the café! To enter, download the entry form & send to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ski & Snowboard School
Hobbits, Hobblets & the Academy programmes start tomorrow! The Hobbits & Hobblets programmes run for 6 Sundays & are a great way to get your kids ripping all over the mountain. The Academy programme is for kids a little bit older who want to improve their park & big mountain riding, & runs for 10 Sundays.
The team in Ski & Snowboard School are also getting geared up for our local school programmes that kick off this coming week – we can’t wait to see all our youngest shredders tearing up the mountain!
