Ski Report July 9, 2016

It has been a SWEET week up at Cardrona! This week’s ski report brought us a little dusting of snow overnight at the start of the week, & a string of bluebird days for some great skiing & riding!

We’ve also had consistently low temperatures this week, so the snow guns have been PUMPING! Word from our Ski & Snowboard School is that the snow conditions are great for learning – heaps of our First Timer groups are heading up McDougall’s in the afternoon of their first day to have a taste of the goods!

Snow Report

We’ve been saying it every week & jinxing it – so there may or may not be a storm heading our way loaded with some snow clouds! It may or may not hit late Tuesday & continue through all of Wednesday. It’s a long range forecast so you never know, but we're pretty excited to see what Mother Nature will deliver!

School Holidays – Top Tips

This week is the first week of the New Zealand school holidays, so in this ski report we’re going to give our top 3 tips to make your time on the mountain with your kids run a lot smoother!

The best way to avoid a stressful morning on the mountain is to head into one of our ticket offices in either Queenstown or Wanaka to sort out passes, rentals, lessons & anything else you may need for a day on the slopes in advance. Our private lessons in particular have been proving really popular, so pre-booking is the best way to make sure you get the best lesson time for your day!

If you already have your passes & equipment you can skip the last 10mins of the drive – park at the new Valley View carpark, grab a coffee & bite to eat at the new Little Meg Café, & jump on the lift to start your day off as quick as possible! Word from the grooming & snowmaking teams is that Valley View has some of the best skiing on the mountain at the moment!

Check out our 4 day kids’ programmes

Our 4 day kids’ programmes are the way to go if you’re planning on being at Cardrona during the week these school holidays! They run Monday to Thursday each week of the season, with the kids having the same instructor in the same group for each of the 4 days. Lunch is included so you don’t even have to worry about that!

If you’re only here for a day, you can book your kids into group lessons & Kids’ Club or Ski Kindy – drop them off & we’ll even sort out all their rental gear! It’s a full day of fun on the slopes for your kids! Let us get your kids ready for a day of skiing so you can focus on yourself!

Hang out with Pengi & Frosty

Our fun-loving mascots Pengi & Frosty will be hanging out around the Base Area, McDougall’s Quad & the Beginners’ Area during lesson times these school holidays. If you see them around they’re always up for a high-five, a photo or even a snowball fight! Watch out for Frosty – he’s Cardrona’s reigning snowball fight champion…

Instructor Training Centre (ITC)

Our ITC programmes start this coming week! Around 90 trainee instructors will be out on our slopes for most of the season, working towards their Level 1 & 2 NZSIA/SBINZ instructing qualifications. The trainees come from all over the world to learn from our amazing team of trainers – check out the Cardrona ITC website for more information or to sign up!
