Cardrona Alpine Resorts + Treble Cone: it's finally happening... officially!
This evening we finalised the unconditional agreement to purchase Treble Cone – Cardrona Alpine Resorts will take possession of TC on January 27, 2020! With this final step completed, some of the big questions you all have can be start to be answered.
The intention has always been to operate both ski areas as a dual-mountain offering, with the understanding that each mountain has something unique to offer. Both Cardrona and Treble Cone have their own wairua and voice, so they'll maintain their own distinct brands and will be operated under the new Cardrona Alpine Resorts (it's pluralised!) banner.
Cardrona and Treble Cone are the yin to each other's yang – TC has incredible, steep terrain and stunning views, and Cardrona is approachable with some of the world's best terrain parks. We can't wait to start celebrating these differences and working together!
Here's the news you've been waiting for: with a dual-mountain offering comes dual-mountain passes and pricing. Single and multi-day passes, for use at both mountains, will be offered at Cardrona’s already advertised 2020 rates, with adult multi-day passes from $100 per day. Unlimited season passes will offer unlimited access to both Cardrona and Treble Cone at an adult Earlybird rate of $999. Our Earlybird season pass sale runs until the end of March every year.
Yup – that means if you've been a dedicated TC season pass holder, you'll get your season pass for less in 2020. Dual-mountain access will also mean Treble Cone skiers can take advantage of an extra two months’ skiing at Cardrona with Cardrona’s longer season; you can warm up your ski legs early in the season, and enjoy spring snow in October!
If you bought a Cardrona Unlimited season pass in the Price Freeze sale in October, you will be able to use that pass at both mountains. If you bought a Saver season pass this is only valid at Cardrona – keep an eye on your email inbox for information on how to upgrade if you'd like to score a dual-mountain pass!
As our GM, Bridget Legnavsky, says: "Our pricing is competitive because we need Treble Cone to flourish. We know that it needs more consistent skier days throughout the season, and not just on those iconic Treble Cone powder days. To make Treble Cone as good as it can possibly be and to justify further investment, it needs to succeed.”
Summer development at Treble Cone will start in January, including general repairs and maintenance, and the beginning of the programme to update Treble Cone’s snowmaking. This summer’s snowmaking upgrade will be focused on reliability, with as much work completed as possible given the short time we have.
Cardrona Alpine Resorts is now able to engage with the Treble Cone team and make a plan for staffing and recruitment. Treble Cone is a complex mountain to operate, and there are highly-skilled and knowledgeable operational staff who know the ins and outs of TC very well – we're super excited to retain that knowledge and competency through the recruitment process.
We hope you're all as excited as we are about the future at both Treble Cone and Cardrona – we've got big plans, and we ain't done yet!!
