Cardrona What's On: One More Week
We're into the final stretch of Winter '23, with our closing day happening next weekend, Oct 15! Read about what to expect from the day below.
Header photo by @Belle Grace, Rider: Zoi Sadowski-Synnott. Welcome to this week's What's On. We're into the final stretch of the season, and with warmer weather creeping in and stormy days on the forecast, we're getting the best of both worlds.
Last week we hosted the epic annual 'She'll be Right', an event which aims to highlight the diverse contributions that make the Kiwi snowboarding culture what it is. This is a grassroots collaboration of pro-riders, emerging talents, cat operators, park crew, as well as a broad-ranging cast of filmers, photographers, artists and event crew. It looked like an awesome day, and we always love seeing the photos that come from it.
A big thanks to everyone who sent off Treble Cone's season with style last weekend. Between memorable dress up, and big crew laps, we're sure to miss this view.
For Cardrona, there's heaps going on up the mountain in our last week, here's some of the highlights:
Captain's Pizzeria is having its last day this Sunday, Oct 8. Ski over to celebrate with a slice, some epic views and a DJ to get you moving. DJ is playing from 1-3:30pm.
The Cardrona Corner is having a spring sale! Now's your time to get next season's gear, with some awesome discounts on helmets, outerwear, snowboards and accessories. Check it out up the mountain or online.
Select Cardrona Alpine Apartments are also still available with $100 off per night from 8 - 15 Oct. Time to make the end of the season go off. Find out more here.
Weather Forecast
This weekend should bring colder temps to this week's warm weather, with some light snow showers. The start of next week is calling for sunshine and warm weather, so break the sunscreen out.
Stay updated and open the Snow Report from 6.30 am daily to see what conditions are like.
Events
Our annual Closing Day event, The Fun Never Stops, has been cancelled due to event team injury and illness. Though this fun has paused this year, we're still planning for an epic day up the mountain, and an icebreaker Plant A Seed event to close the season!
Join us on October 15 at 2pm in the Pines Carpark to make your green mark on the maunga. We'll have a 'Planting Zone' set up, with some arts and crafts so you can put your name at the base of your plant and come back to check on it in years to come!
There'll also be spot prizes from us and icebreaker, with refreshments available from b.Effect, Cookie Time, Cardrona Distillery and Mr Whippy to keep you going. If you don't have time to get stuck in, pop in to see the team in the Courtyard, choose a plant, and make a gold coin donation to Plant a Seed – we’ll do the hard yakka for you!
Terrain Parks
With warmer temps in spring, there can be some overnight melt which will mean the Cardrona Parks Crew will need to make sure the features are safe to ride come morning. Bear with the crew while they work hard to get things open for you. Please respect any closures!
