Cardrona What's On: A Spring Storm

Don't let yesterday's warm weather fool you - we're in a spring storm, rolling into tonight! Read all about it below.

Kia ora! Welcome to this week's What's On. Classic spring conditions today! With a mixture of rain and snow forecasted, we're hoping the conditions for the rest of the week are still all to play for. We hope the snow gods want to give us one last mega-storm to see us through spring.

The mountain is closed today and has been for a couple of days due to the extreme weather conditions, which we expect to continue until tonight. Keep an eye out on our social media or the snow report, the first places we announce any closures and updates.

Before the weather rolled in, it was great to host the Upper Clutha Primary School Racing day, and they had a beautiful day for it:

Weather Forecast

The weather's been pretty lively recently, and we're expecting it to peak tonight with, fingers crossed, maybe a huge snow dump. We'll be announcing Friday morning what the conditions have been like on our socials and over on the snow report.

Temps are set to cool Fri/Sat/Sun, with lows of -4, so we're hoping that will be cold enough for any snow to stick around

Stay updated and open the Snow Report from 6.30 am daily to see what conditions are like.

Treble Cone

Thanks to everyone who pedalled, skinned, hiked at times, and skied or snowboarded to the summit last weekend. It's inspiring to see all your commitment!

The snow has been temperamental this season, so it's been great to see people hitting the summit rocks recently! Check out Jessie Violet backflipping off below.

Events

It was awesome to host the Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational over the weekend! Even with a day closed due to weather, the event went off. Missed out on the action? Here's just some of it right here:

The Cardrona National Points Race will be postponed due to the mountain closure today, and updates are still to be confirmed. The event finishes the alpine race series for winter and racing is for U14 – U19 athletes. Stay updated with mountain closures, updates, and the weather, on our socials @cardronanz.

Terrain Parks

The Parks have been the centre of attention over the last few weeks, from the JWI to Winter Games NZ. It was great to get a shoutout on snowboarder.com for all the incredible work the Parks Crew have put in, especially for the Big Air jump. Recently we've seen Taiga Hasegawa land a Backside 1980, Cab 1980, Frontside 1980 and Switch BS 1980, and Cool Wakushima who executed an incredible Frontside 1260! You can read their full article here

Want to know how they built the Big Air jump? Watch our film, Moving Mountains, all about the incredible crew that put in the mahi for you.
