Cardrona What's On: Bye, bye, July!

We've had an incredible July up at Cardrona this year, and there's so much more coming up in August!

This last week has had a bit of everything - snow, sunshine, cold and wind. It's been awesome to see everyone up here claiming some fresh turns and doing a bit of storm skiing/boarding. It really feels like winter is officially here, with cold temps and a great blanket of snow all over the mountain.

It's looking like there's a bit of varying weather ahead again, so it pays to join our Cardrona Snow Reports Facebook group or follow our Twitter account so you can keep up to date on what the conditions are like each day.

weather

This weekend is looking mostly fine, with a possible wee dusting of snow overnight Saturday/Sunday morning. Monday is kicking off the week with a beautiful day according to Snow-Forecast.com, before a high heads our way mid-next week.

If you're in the backcountry this week, don't forget to record what you observe through the NZ Mountain Safety Council's Avalanche Advisory page.

terrain parks

Another jump in Big Bucks will be built either tonight or tomorrow night, meaning the team will have jumps 0, 1 and 2 riding this weekend! They're working on Jump 3 - they're just a few days away from having the full line sorted.

The Cardrona Parks Squad have been having a great time in Big Bucks - here's Jet Hughes sending a 720 on Jump 1.

events

The next event up on the mountain is on Saturday, August 2 - the Cardrona Mountain Bikes on Snow. The race is total carnage... heaps of fun to race, and a whole lot more fun to watch! Check out all the action as the racers bike down from the top of Whitestar down to the Base Area... and maybe take a tumble or two on the way...

August is our biggest month for on-mountain events, so head to our Events Calendar to check them all out.

treble cone

Treble Cone have had an amazing week, with a few fantastic powder days. If you want to be in on when all the good days are, join their Facebook Snow Reports group.

Ross and the lift ops team at Treble Cone are experimenting a few different ways of managing the Saddle lift queue so it's fair and safe for everyone. They're going to be trying heaps of options, so please give them feedback on what works and what doesn't if you're over at TC this coming week!

There's a Treble Cone giveaway going live early next week... keep an eye on their social channels for more info on what they're giving away and how to enter.

things to look out for

The message from our team this week is please look out for each other on the road! Now we have more locals driving up we are noticing a lot of enthusiasm to get up the mountain road, with safety as the second priority.

As a quick reminder:

  • The speed limit on the Cardrona road is 50kph.
  • Make sure you have 100m of clear space in front of you after you have completed a passing manoeuvre.
  • Maintain 2-way traffic at all times, and give the busses some extra room if you can on the narrower sections of the road/in the carparks.
  • Practise putting on your chains the night before, and please use them if you're asked to.
  • Please only park where directed.

Thank you in advance for this! #CardronaLovesYou

Until next week (and August)... that's all!
