Cardrona What's On: JWI 2023 Athletes Confirmed

The Jossi Wells Invitational is back for 2023! Two mountains and three huge events, you don't want to miss this. Read about it below.

It's been a huge week for Winter Games NZ. With lovely spring conditions and bright blue skies, the event has been a spectacle. The 2023 FIS Park and Pipe World Champs closed earlier this week with the Big Air finals, and we saw athletes pushed to their limits. A huge congratulations to all who entered and those who landed on the podium. Check out the highlights below:

Though Winter Games NZ closes this weekend with the Obsidian Big Air and Park Jam, the fun doesn't need to stop! The Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational is back for 2023, and we're excited to host some of the world's best athletes and watch them compete. From September 15 - 17, we'll be hosting multiple events; Rail Jam, TC Shoot-Out and the legendary Big Air. Expect awesome competition from Cool Wakushima, Mia Brookes, Taiga Hasegawa, and Dusty Henricksen amongst more incredible athletes. Read next week's What's On for the full announcement and event dates.

It's Dragon Week this week! From Wednesday, we've been celebrating Cardrona and Dragon's partnership and have kicked things off with a huge giveaway of:

1x Spring Flexi 5 day pass

1x Dragon "The Box" sunglasses

1x Dragon hoodie and beanie

1x The North Face Duffle.

Tap on our post below to read more on how to enter. Dragon Week will be happening until Sunday, September 10. Look out on the mountain for scavenger hunts, giveaways, demos and more!

Weather Forecast

Pack light layers and sunscreen, it's looking warm and bright! Tomorrow will have highs of 6 degrees and sunshine all day. These temps should continue through to Saturday, before dropping off on Sunday, making way for some light snow.

Stay updated and open the Snow Report from 6.30 am daily to see what conditions are like.

Treble Cone

Treble Cone was closed yesterday due to allowing the snowpack to settle after some precipitation. If you are planning to ski/ride TC over the next few days, check with staff about the Summit slopes before you head up. They've been closed due to high temps and a problematic persistent weak layer, creating an avalanche risk. The TC team will be assessing the snowpack daily throughout spring. If you'd like more info or are unsure about the terrain, ask a friendly team member before heading up!

Events

Winter Games NZ

September 9 - 10 we're hosting the penultimate event of Winter Games NZ, the Obsidian series, made up of the Big Air Team Challenge and the Park Jam Team Challenge.

What is Obsidian? It's an event made up of four teams, consisting of their global region's 8 best athletes: two female ski, two male ski, two female snowboard and two male snowboard. The teams will battle against the others on incredible freeride and custom-designed park terrain. Still unsure what's happening? Watch the short trailer below.

Terrain Parks

The parks have been refreshed and seen a lot of use from Winter Games NZ athletes. The JWI next weekend will mean another refresh and features added. Want to be the first to know about park updates? Follow @cardronaparksnz on Instagram for new builds as they happen.
