Cardrona What's On: More Snow on the Way

The July school holidays are over and there's some snow in the forecast this coming week!

If you visited us during the July school holidays, we want to thank you for your support and patience during the busiest time of our season. We had some amazing weather, the snow conditions have been fantastic, and it was awesome to see everyone out on the slopes having a great time together.

It's looking like there's a bit of varying weather ahead, so it pays to join our Cardrona Snow Reports Facebook group or follow our Twitter account so you can keep up to date on what the conditions are like each day.

If you're an Earlybird multi-day or a Saver season pass holder, the blackout period has now officially ended and you can ski tomorrow!

weather

Snow-Forecast.com are currently predicting a week with some mixed weather - it's looking like a couple of great weather windows with good snow will be found on Wednesday, Friday afternoon and Sunday.

If you're in the backcountry this week, don't forget to record what you observe through the NZ Mountain Safety Council's Avalanche Advisory page.

This weekend is looking fine and sunny again, though!

terrain parks

We now have a full line through Stag Lane, both jumps and beginner boxes/rails in Lil' Bucks, and the full Antlers Alley jumpline in Cardrona Parks, and it looks like the park rats are loving it!

Here's Cardrona Team athlete Beau-James Wells tearing up Stag Lane earlier this week.

Next up is Big Bucks - two jumps in Big Bucks will be built and tested over the next couple of days... watch the morning Snow Report for updates.

events

This Sunday the Wanaka Ski and Snowsports Club is holding their Race ya Mates event. This weekend we're also holding advanced snowboard weekend sessions with two of New Zealand's best snowboard coaches – check out the Facebook event for more info. There's another session at Treble Cone coming up too.

If you're a snowboarding fan, you'll want to pop along to the Nerds Like Us collection of vintage snowboards that will be held at Blend Creative's studio on Frederick Street in Wanaka this weekend. It's a gold coin entry and all proceeds go to the Wanaka Mental Health Peer Support Group.

There's a couple of good dumps forecast for TC this week, so keep an eye on their social channels and join their Facebook Snow Reports group to be in the know when the race to the Saddle is on.

It's been a lot of fun watching the videos of our friends at TC sending it huuuge this week, like this one of Ben Richards' double backy...

things to look out for

We've got a couple of giveaways coming up on our social media channels... the first one is coming up on the Cardrona Instagram on Monday at 7pm, and you're not gonna want to miss it!

To finish things off today, we want to talk about 6-year-old Lochie Win. For our 40th birthday this year, he's decided to ski 40 days at Cardrona and raise money for the Cancer Society in the process. He said it's to say thank you to the Cancer Society for helping get his mum (and lots of other mums and dads out there) survive cancer. If you've read this far and you're still able to see through your tears, then head to his Givealittle page if you'd like to contribute.

That's it for this week, folks! We'll catch you next week after a few more pow turns...
