Cardrona What's On: One Month Left!

There's just one month left of the 2020 Cardrona winter season and we've had another week to remember up here!

This week the weather gods have really thrown everything at us - we had a couple of closed days with severe gale force winds, as well as amazing snow days with a more settled weekend ahead. One of the most common phrases we're hearing around the resort is "isn't it supposed to be spring?!", and it's true... it's looking very wintry out there right now.

Check out our video from Tuesday's powder day... some of the faces got DEEP:

This coming week is the last week before the October school holidays. If you're bringing down the family for a couple of weeks of spring school holiday skiing or snowboarding, we put together a gear list of things you might not have thought of... and you can read it here.

Please join our Cardrona Snow Reports Facebook group or follow our Twitter account so you can keep up to date on what the snow and weather conditions are like each day, how our facilities are running, and what's happening with our on-mountain events.

weather

Snow-Forecast.com are calling a more settled weekend than the last couple of days, leading into a sunny weekend from Saturday afternoon. Our pick of the next few days weather-wise is definitely Sunday!

If you're in the backcountry this week, don't forget to record what you observe through the NZ Mountain Safety Council's Avalanche Advisory page.

terrain parks

In Terrain Park updates this week, the Big Bucks jumps have been rebuilt and are riding really well. We're really close to having the International Minipipe open - watch this space!

Here's a wee video from our girl Cool Wakushima earlier on in the week... she's absolutely ripping at the moment:

events

This weekend we've got the South Island Secondary School Champs on Saturday, followed by Pīki Maunga Rangatahi (Big Mountain Youth) on Sunday.

At the end of next week we're kicking off the NZ Alpine Youth Championships... there's plenty of action to see on the mountain over the next week!

Tomorrow (Saturday 19th) is also International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so feel free to dress up and practise your "YARR"'s...

treble cone

TC's official Closing Day is this Sunday, and the team will have brunch specials, live music, and we expect to see some pretty good costumes. With that being said, the team have seen how good conditions are at the moment so they've decided to sweeten the season with another 3 days at the end of next week - you'll be able to ski up there on the 25th, 26th and 27th of September! Expect a clubbie vibe with a more "grab and go" food offering.

The Treble Cone Ski Patrol team are also holding an online and on-mountain fundraiser for TC patroller Roo, who is currently undergoing intensive cancer treatment. You can find out more and bid on items on their Facebook event.

For all daily updates, join the Treble Cone Facebook Snow Reports group.
