Cardrona What's On: The October School Holidays

We're heading into the October school holidays up at Cardrona - and we're cramming a LOT into the last three weeks of the season!

We've got a couple of the biggest junior events of the season, some awesome staff dress up days (we'd love you to join us for Retro Day on October 1st!), and some big snow on the way (spring?).

We're also running a social media competition where you can win GoPro HERO8 Black cameras by recreating retro photos as we celebrate Cardrona's 40th birthday. Find out how to enter here!

Have you got everything you need for the school holidays? We put together a gear list of things you might not have thought of... you can read it here.

Please join our Cardrona Snow Reports Facebook group or follow our Twitter account so you can keep up to date on what the snow and weather conditions are like each day, how our facilities are running, and what's happening with our on-mountain events.

weather

Snow-Forecast.com are showing a small breeze with a sunny morning tomorrow (Saturday), before the next wave of the storm runs through with up to 30cm of snow falling overnight... and it doesn't really stop until the end of Tuesday! Some of our best snow days this season have been when the weather isn't perfect, and there might be a couple of days coming up where it's worth waiting for the weather windows...

If you're in the backcountry this week, don't forget to record what you observe through the NZ Mountain Safety Council's Avalanche Advisory page.

terrain parks

We're really close to having the International Minipipe open - watch this space for an update next week! Lil' Bucks has been rebuilt this week, with a few new rail features for the next step up.

Last week we talked about Cardrona Team snowboarder Cool Wakushima and said she was on fire right now... well this week she landed a double wildcat for the first time:

events

We're kicking off the NZ Alpine Youth Championships tomorrow - it's the pinnacle of the 2020 race calendar for our junior racers, so we're sending all our good vibes to the Wanaka Ski Team as they take on the best young racers from around the country.

Next weekend (October 4) we're holding the 3rd annual Ngā Wāhine ō te Maunga (Women of the Mountain) fundraising event for B4BC (Boarding for Breast Cancer). With just a $30 entry, 2 hour group lesson, an afternoon riding with lady pros, awesome prizes thanks to Rojo and more, and an aprés session with Maude Wines, it's set to be an incredible day for the ladies. Sign up online now!

TC had a great first "encore" day today, with two more operational days this weekend (weather-dependent) planned. It's a bit more of a club feel up there for these days, with no rental or snow sports school on offer, and more "grab and go" food offerings. There could be some awesome snow fall up there over the next couple of days!

The Treble Cone Ski Patrol team are also holding a fundraiser (online and in-person at the Lake Wanaka Centre) for TC patroller Roo, who is currently undergoing intensive cancer treatment. You can find out more and bid on items on their Facebook event.

The TC team would love to pass on their thanks for all your support this season - we hope you all managed to get out there for a couple of laps!
