Cardrona What's On: Treble Cone's Open!

The school holidays are in full swing, Cardrona got snow and battled with gale winds, and Treble Cone opened!

We're in the middle of the school holidays and there's one more week of our peak season - the "blackout" period ends next Friday, July 14. For those who hold a Saver season pass or an Earlybird multi-day, you can start using your passes again from July 15.

This week's been a mixed bag, we did get more snow on the slopes, Cardrona's lifts battled with gales and Treble Cone got the all clear to open selected runs. However, today the winds have calmed, the snowmaking and grooming crews have pushed hard, and now we'll be operating McDougall's and Whitestar lifts with selected runs, as well as the carpets in the Beginner's Area!

It was so good to see TC's chair spinning! And we know for a fact that these guys were VERY ready to be on Paw Patrol.

Cardrona had a couple of closed days this week due to the strong winds making it unsafe for guests to come up and ski and ride. If the mountain does close on a day you're meant to visit, read the FAQs at the bottom of our lift pass page. They've recently been updated and should answer questions we're sure you have!

If you're panning to come up the mountains with your family in the next week, watch this video of our favourite 'rad dad' Jay Smith, with top tips that just keep giving. Or, read a complete list of them here.

Weather Forecast

Today's looking like a bluebird day, with clouds creeping in from tomorrow and throughout the weekend. Temps will be milder than last weekend with lows of 1 degree, and a slight windchill of -2 degrees, so still come prepared with lots of layers as well as sunscreen for the whole whānau! Next week looks colder still, so fingers crossed for more snow then. Open the Snow Report from 6.30 am daily to see what conditions are like every day.

Treble Cone

Treble Cone opened this week, and we were so ready to welcome the ski and board enthusiasts to the slopes.

Our groomers and snowmakers have worked tirelessly to get things ready, and right now Triple Treat is groomed and open, with Main Street open for ungroomed adventures.

Be aware, if you're planning to visit TC, we don't advise beginners coming to take some turns just yet, the platter won't be open, and the snow at the bottom of Triple Treat is thin and narrow.

Opening day was so good. Winter '23 at TC has kicked off! Watch the scenes from opening day below.

Events

This Saturday, July 8, join the maunga community for the annual Rail Jam. This year, the event will be a 'Butter Bean Memorial Rail Jam', in loving memory and honour of Sam Finnemore, who was a large part of the Cardrona community. This event is for everyone, especially the kids, to have a blast, share memories, and have heaps of fun. There's an afterparty kicking off at 3pm in The Lounge if you'd like to join later on. Read more about the event here

On Sunday, July 9 we're hosting the annual Cardrona Race ya Mates! A great opportunity to give social racing a go and is the ultimate challenge for your mates. Just pop up to the top of All Nations Trail and you'll be timed and ranked against anyone else who enters.

Cardrona Kids' Cup has been rescheduled! The new date is still to be confirmed. Keep reading the weekly What's On to stay in the loop.

The following Matariki long weekend will see a couple of planned events:

Friday, 14 July: Park Attack Slopestyle

Sunday, 16 July: Pīki Maunga Rangatahi (Big Mountain Youth)

Terrain Parks

Sunday saw new beginner-intermediate tubes built on the run Race Course, located just under McDougall’s.

A couple of forced closures this week has pushed the park crew's builds back, but you should keep a look out for more features in the hike park by the top of Whitestar. The crew have plans to rebuild today!
